I am an
education volunteer facilitator and college instructor. I
coordinate a volunteer project that brings together college and
high school students for science and technology, and I’m a
volunteer myself. After many years dedicated exclusively to
teaching, I wanted to expand my scope of service and share what
I’ve learned in these twenty years of bringing science and
technology to students, and help others to teach as well.
I’ve
worked for more than twenty years in education at all levels,
from a child care setting, elementary and high school science
teacher, college instructor in English and Biology, to teacher
trainer in hands-on science activities. This is why I understand
and appreciate the effort teachers make at all age
levels.
I’ve
always being a pioneer in bringing interactivity to education. I
lobbied for lab activities in the high school and college where I
worked. The Biology class I taught in the Psychology major was
the only one in the country that gave future psychologists a
glimpse of a real brain and opportunities to explore nervous
systems in a real life setting. I started a science open house
with my college Biology students, where they shared their
research with the community. This event was so successful that
the whole Humanities Department adopted it, becoming the Didactic
Department Fair where all majors share their interdisciplinary
projects with the community.
I’m
passionate about unity in diversity. I have a very diverse family
with several races and continents united in marriage and
children. I’m always happy to learn about new cultures, new foods
and new places to visit. I think our diversity can be an engine
for unity, as we are fascinated by each other’s cultures and
desirous to learn about each other. I consider online education
as a great opportunity for students to explore not only the
subject matter, but also the wealth of knowledge different
cultures bring.
When
I’m not working you can find me reading a good book, working on
my vegetable garden, building crazy robots with my family or
exploring the world.
