Gary Ackerman (Moodle Mods 3-4 September2016)

Gary Ackerman

Currently, Gary keeps busy with two part-time jobs. He serves as the 80% digital project leader at Rivendell Academy, a public 7-12 Vermont school that is physically located in New Hampshire (the district is one of only two in the country that cross state borders). He also works 18 hours per week (some on campus and some remotely) as an educational technology specialist for the Advanced Manufacturing program at Mount Wachusett Community College in Devens, Massachusetts. He also is an adjunct instrutor at MWCC, and his online course "Spreadsheet Applications" receives very high evaluations from students.

Gary has the reputation of being a skilled educational technologist who can work with the most reluctant users to the most skilled users. Interestingly, he wanted nothing to do with computers early in his life. It was not until he started using them as an undergraduate science education student that he started his computing life.

After 10 years teaching middle school science and math, Gary started teaching computer courses for middle school students. Soon afterwards, he was managing IT networks, teaching teachers, and managing all aspects of computers in schools. More recently, Gary has turned his interest back to the educational side of educational technology. Gary also maintains a scholarly life; he is active in the New England Educational Research Organization, and is researching and drafting his second book.

When he is not working, he is usually driving (his short commute is 75 miles in each direction) and desperately trying to sell his house to move closer to work.
