Kerri Freda (EDUC 961)

Picture of Kerri Freda

Kerri Freda has been teaching in a public school system for the past ten years and in 2013 earned a Masters of Arts degree in Educational Technology. She also holds supervisor certification in the state of NJ and is certified to teach: middle school social studies and language arts and elementary grades 5-8. Mrs. Freda is a   “career changer” and before teaching, had successful careers in sales, media communications and music. Mrs. Freda is a professional musician who has appeared on MTV and performed at Citifield and the world famous Palladium.  Mrs. Freda maintains a connection to the arts through her school district, by directing her middle school’s spring musical.

Because of Mrs. Freda’s diverse background in sales and in the arts, she has shared experiences with students and applied them to the traditional classroom.  Instruction is rigorous in her classroom but presented in a way to challenge students so that they can believe they can achieve and are not allowed to be discouraged.

Integrating technology and teaching social studies are Mrs. Freda’s passions and this is apparent when she teaches lessons!  A student will not be willing to “buy” into learning if it is not sold in a genuine matter.  She feels that is one of her greatest strengths, along with my creativity, humor, content knowledge, and genuine interest in the success of my students.

Mrs. Freda’s greatest strengths as a teacher include the presentation of instruction via interactive web based tools and driving student’s creation of technological projects such as digital movies and podcasts, which combine technology with digital literacy to improve higher-order thinking, problem-solving skills, and inference skills.

Improving oneself with knowledge and personal growth is highly important to Mrs. Freda. These new techniques prove to be important to a successful teacher or educator.   Constantly learning and growing, and advancing ones’ degree is important for growth as an individual, she believes.

Mrs. Freda is eager to provide students with an engaging online learning experience where students will be introduced to new technologies and strategies to implement in their own classroom or career.  Students will enjoy enriching online discussions and be afforded the opportunity to collaborate with educators. Consider this online learning experience as your own PLC (Professional Learning Community).
