"He Had Blue Eyes"

Read other comments re this one & choose to respond openly rather than to one specific post.  Interestingly, this goes to one of the comments I made with "voice" readings.  In the text, "File Sharing Is Not the Spawn of Satan" received a 5 / 6 but noted, "You may score it lower if you find the sarcasm inappropriate."  That creates a dilemma for me.  I know, I know, writers should always consider audience, but at the cost of "voice"?  Should writing be less effective just because I find it scary or inappropriate or offensive? Vonnegut?  Twain?  Plath? King?  Cormier?  Atwood? Boujahlian? (Just to name a few.)  The depth and breadth of voice is maybe the power of delivery, passion from the heart.  And honestly, I was not struck by the sexual or suicidal revelations (in fact, they were superficial).  Disturbing to feel pain of this young woman but this writer was good.  Title, "He had Blue Eyes" pulled me in.  As did the line, "I do not like feeling good all the time."

And my new standard?  This "begs" to be read aloud.

That's it for me...karen
