One of the challenges for an online instructor is assessments.  I have two areas of interest.  First, how do other instructors minimize the opportunity for cheating on assessments?  Second, in my area of instruction, accounting at a WI Tech school, we need to be assured that students can complete certain tasks at a minimum level of competency in a reasonable amount of time with NO reference material.  Instructional areas that involve human health and safety have critical competency assessments, which can be a matter of life and death.  How do other instructors see this type of assessment occurring in an online format, considering mechanics, logistics and the integrity of the assessment?  Alternatively, do you think there are some assessments that still require some aspect of face to face interaction?
